The Client
Micro-C was founded to develop and commercialize the world’s first portable Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) device, revolutionizing orthopedic surgery with real-time, high-resolution imaging in a compact format.
The Challenge
Designing the Micro-C device posed several challenges. Meeting portable power requirements was critical to ensure reliable operation without compromising image quality. Achieving low-radiation safety standards suitable for use outside traditional x-ray facilities required advanced shielding and emission control. The system also needed seamless integration with existing medical infrastructure while remaining easy to remove and transport. Balancing high-performance imaging with these constraints demanded innovative engineering to create a device that is both clinically effective and truly portable.
The Solution
- The Micro-C system comprised three portable core units: a power supply, an x-ray emitter, and a digital imaging platform. Kickr Design led a fully integrated effort combining electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, and prototype fabrication. Specialized firmware was developed to control all features, ensuring precise coordination between components. This multidisciplinary approach enabled seamless functionality, efficient power management, and high-quality imaging performance, laying the foundation for a compact, reliable, and safe portable radiography device ready for clinical use.
The Results
Kickr Design executed the custom engineering needed to meet the product’s performance goals, enabling successful demonstration, rigorous testing, and laying the groundwork for eventual FDA certification and market readiness.
