The Client
Tamika Crawford was working to solve the uncommon but life-changing problem of parents accidentally leaving their kids in a hot car, with the goal of reducing fatalities.
The Challenge
Tamika’s project aimed to develop a powerful demo to help parents prevent child hot car deaths. The customer needed an interactive, portable system to showcase how the device works and its life-saving potential. The biggest challenge was creating more than just a static rendering or video—a compelling, hands-on demonstration that could engage investors and clearly communicate the product’s value and functionality in real-world use. The result brought the device’s mission to life.
The Solution
- The solution was a fully interactive demo module made from a combination of 3D prints and laser cut plexiglass. The custom backlighting and real world sensors that were integrated took the viewer on a journey of how the child safety alert would work. From the moment the car sensed it was overheating and a child was present to the warning sent to a parent and then as a last safety feature triggering the cart alarm to bring others attention to the vehicle. All packed into a transportable demo the client could present to investors.
The Results
The project delivered a functional demo using CAD, rapid prototyping, and carefully selected components. Through brainstorming and voice-of-customer insights, the team shaped the customer journey, ensuring the device was intuitive, impactful, and aligned with real user needs—effectively showcasing the product’s life-saving potential.
